No reliable study with calcium nitrate is available. A daphnia study with potassium nitrate was performed. This study was performed according to Anderson, B.G., Andrews, T.F., Chandler, D.G., and Jahoda, W.J. 1948. The evaluation of aquatic invertebrates as assay organisms for the determination of toxicity of industrial wastes. Report from Ohio State University Research Foundation to the American Petroleum Institute, New York, 1948. Daphnia were exposed for 96 hrs, however the 48 -hr endpoint has been used here and was determined to be 490 mg/L. The study endpoint was expressed as the TLm (median Tolerance Limit). The median Tolerance Limit is the concentration of a toxic material at which 50% of the testorganisms (usually aquatic organisms) survive (=EC50).
