Description of key information

The 10 day Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC100) value of calcium iodate in green algae (Dunaliella salina) was found to be 843.1238 mg/L based on its effect on the growth rate. This value indicates that the chemical will not exhibit short term toxicity to algae. As per the CLP criteria, the substance will not be classifed for Aquatic toxicity.

Additional information

Based on the various studies available with Klimish rating 2 for the read across substances for CAS NO 7789-80-2 and based on the category approach of organic functional group along with similar mechanistic approach and having structural similarities defined by QSAR toolbox. The results is summarized as follows

By applying weight of evidence approach to the studies summarized in the above table it can be observed that MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) value is expected to be in range of696.2 to2600.4 mg/l. Thus considering CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it is concluded that Calcium iodate does not exhibit toxicity to green algae (Dunaliella salina, Cryptomonas sp,  N. closterium, Phaedactylum tricornutum, Chlorella sp.)
