Calcium hypophosphite is a white powder.

As indicated from the DSC trace the substance is solid up to 340 °C.

Based on REACH Regulation (EC n. 1907/2006), annex VII, column 2, the study of boiling point does not need to beconducted for solids which either melt above 300 °C or decompose before boiling.

The relative density is 2.243 at 20 ± 0.5 °C measured with a pycnometer.

The particle size distribution of the test item was analyzed using the Laser diffraction and the average particle size obtained was 12.8 µm.

As reported in column 2 of REACH (EC. n.1907/2006) Annex VII the study of vapour pressure doesn't need to be conducted if the melting point is above 300 °C.

As reported in column 2 of REACH(EC. n.1907/2006) Annex VII the study of partition coefficient doesn't need to be conducted if the substance is inorganic.

Calcium hypophosphite is very soluble in water (117.1 g/l), it is no hydrophobic moiety and cannot have surfactant properties.

The substance is inorganic so the study regarding flash point is not required.

As reported in column 2 of REACH (EC. n.1907/2006) Annex VI the study of auto flammability for solids are not required if the substance has a melting point ≤ 160 °C, or if preliminary results exclude selfheating of the substance up to 400 °C.

Calcium hypophosphite is considered to be highly flammable: measured burning rate was about 10 mm/s.

Two reports based on Koenen test and BAM friction test both contribute in defining the non explosive properties of Calcium Hypophosphite.

According to column 2 of REACH (EC. n.1907/2006) Annex VI test regarding oxidising properties of the substance does not need to be conducted if the substance is highly flammable and the stability of the substance in organic solvent is not required due to inorganic nature of Calcium hypophosphite.

Dissolution of Calcium hypophosphite in water does not affect the pH of the solution: no dissociation constant was measured for hypophosphite ion and calcium ion has got a pKa = 12.6.

The Viscosity is a property that is measured for fluids only. Even though there is no adaptation rules in REACH (EC. n.1907/2006) Column 2 of Annex IX, measure of viscosity is waived for solids.
