Description of key information

Calcium fluoride is a simple inorganic salt and (due to its low water solubility) will slowly dissociate in water at environmentally relevant pH to form calcium and fluoride ions. Subsequently, the Ca2 + ions will remain in the aqueous solution, whereass a (small) part of the F- ions will form HF due to the fact that the latter is a weak acid. This is the theoretical hydrolysis of the inorganic salt CaF2. The extent of hydrolysis of CaF2 thus is driven by i) its solubility in water and ii) the weakness of the HF acid, as expressed by means of its pKa value. As such, a hydrolysis test will not be of added value.
