Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Determination of the Boiling Point of bis(2,3-epoxypropyl) terephthalate (57772181)
(GLP compliant study based on the Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, A.2, 2008, OECD No. 103, 1995 and OPPTS 830.7220, August 1996)
Author: Andrea Fieseler
Study Completion Date: November 01, 2010

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
292 °C

Additional information

The determination of the boiling point was performed by visual judgement using the capillary method.

At about 280 °C in the preliminary test, the number of air bubbles increased. To confirm the result obtained in the preliminary test, the determination of the boiling point was performed in triplicate, heating quickly up to 265 °C and afterwards slowly using a heating rate of 1 °C/min.

A clear boiling point, as defined in the guideline with a current stream of bubbles evolving from the capillary, was observed at a heating temperature of 291 °C (564 K) at 99.14 kPa. The results were considered valid because they fulfill the criteria of repeatability.

In conclusion,bis(2,3-epoxypropyl) terephthalate starts boils at 292 °C (565 K) at ambient barometric pressure (101.3 kPa).
