UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Part I: Classification procedures, test methods and criteria relating to explosives of Class 1
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Parameter:

other: PN 15686: +530 J/g (endothermic)
Remarks:
Start of effect 220°C
Parameter:
other: exothermal decomposition energy
Value:

other: PN 15713: +600 J/g (endothermic)
Remarks:
Start of effect 220°C

The DSC runs PN 15686 and PN 15713 in closed gold plated crucibles are shown in Figure 1. The test item showed an endothermic effect in the temperature range of 220 – 350 °C.

The results of the DSC-measurements are summarized in Table 3.

Table 3:       Results of the DSC-measurements

No.  Crucible material  Sample weight / mg  Start of effect / °C Energy1) / J/g   Remark
 PN 15686  gold plated  2.44  220  +530 (endothermic)  Figure 1
 PN 15713  gold plated  2.90  220  +600 (endothermic)  Figure 1

1) Energies of exothermic effects are presented as negative values and energies of endothermic effects as positive values.

The DSC-measurements in the closed crucibles showed no decomposition of the test item until the final measurement temperature of 500 °C, meaning the decomposition energy is below the threshold of -500 J/g to exclude explosive properties. Due to this, further tests on explosive properties were not necessary. The test item has no explosive properties.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item has no explosive properties.
Executive summary:

The explosive properties of the test item Hydrogen[4-[[4-diethylamino)phenyl][4-[ethyl[(3-sulphonatobenzyl)amino]-o-tolyl]methylene]-3-methylcylohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene](ethyl)3-sulphonatobenzyl)ammonium, sodium salt

were investigated according to UN MAnual of Tests and Criteria: Part I: Classification procedured, test methods and criteria relating to explosives of Class 1.

In the preliminary screening test, a DSC-measurement, the energy of the exothermic decomposition of the test item was below the threshold of -500 J/g. Therefore, further tests for explosive properties had not to be performed.

According to the results of the test on thermal stability, the test item is classified as following:

UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance in class 1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.1): The test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance according to GHS or CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.1, respectively.

Description of key information
