Description of key information

Not expected to be flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.10, a flammability study does not need to be conducted because for liquids the primary value for ease of ignition is the flash point. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance the flammability is deduced from flash point. The test substance is classified as a Class IIIB combustible liquid due to a flash point greater than 93.4°C. In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.10, additional flammability studies do not need to be conducted because based on chemical structure pyrophoricity or water reactivity is not to be expected. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, experience in handling and use provides sufficient information to indicate that this substance is not pyrophoric or water reactive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

1,4 -Butenediol (B2D) should not be classified as dangerous / hazardous with regards to flammability according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC because according to Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.10, a flammability study does not need to be conducted because for liquids the primary value for ease of ignition is the flash point. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance the flammability is deduced from flash point. The test substance is classified as a Class IIIB combustible liquid due to a flash point greater than 93.4°C.
