First-aid measures

Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Keep at rest. Consult a physician.

Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink. Obtain medical attention.

Skin Contact: Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes). Consult a physician.

Eye Contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Get immediate medical advice/ attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Fire: Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Cool containers/tanks with water spray. Wear suitable protective equipment.

Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Use a water spray to cool fully closed containers.

Explosion: Not considered to be an explosion hazard.

Fire Extinguishing Media: Preferably use:

Powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Sand

Special Information: Full protective suit, self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133)

In the event of a fire: Corrosive or suffocating vapours are released. In the presence of water, the substance reacts to form a corrosive solution.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Do not breathe vapours.

Wear suitable protective equipment (Goggles, Face-shield, PVC or other plastic material gloves.)

Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment.

Environmental precautions: Prevent product from entering sewage system. Contain the spilled material by bunding.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:

Recovery:

Clean-up methods - large spillage - pump up the product into a suitably labelled spare container.

Clean-up methods - small spillage -soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Decontamination / cleaning:

Wash off with plenty of water. Recover the cleaning water for subsequent disposal.

Disposal:

Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Handling and storage

The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to form a water-tight basin. Store in a cool well-ventilated dry place. Keep away from incompatible materials to be indicated by the manufacturer (oxidizing agents). Keep container tightly closed.

Suitable Packaging material: Acid resistant materials (Store in original container.)

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control measures

Engineering measures: Used in closed system

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection: Use a respirator with an approved filter if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Respirator with a gas filter

Have emergency self-contained breathing apparatus or full-face airline respirator available when using this chemical.

Hand protection: Glove material: PVC. Where there is a risk of contact with hands, use appropriate gloves

The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time. Gloves must be inspected prior to use.

Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.

Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields

Skin and body protection: Protective suit, Safety shoes

Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place.

Remove and wash contaminated clothing.

Hygiene measures: Emergency equipment immediately accessible, with instructions for use.

Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Regularly clean equipment, work area and clothing. Use clean, well-maintained personal protection equipment. Store personal protection equipment in a clean location, away from the work area. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. Before reuse, thoroughly clean personal protection equipment. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Shower or bathe at the end of working. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke.

Protective measures: The protective equipment must be selected in accordance with current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment. Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur during use.

General advice: Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity - Stable under recommended storage conditions. - No dangerous reaction known under conditions of normal use.

Conditions to avoid - May decompose: - on heating - Exposure to air.

Incompatible materials - Reacts with the following substances: - Oxidizing agents - Air - dimethyl sulfoxide.

Hazardous decomposition products - Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating gases and vapours. - Oxides of phosphorus - (Carbon oxides (CO + CO2)).

Disposal considerations

Product Disposal Prohibition - Do not dispose of with domestic refuse. - Do NOT put down the drain. Must undergo physico-chemical treatment prior to disposal. - The product should not be allowed to enter drains, water courses or the soil. - Send to a licensed waste management company. - Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and national regulations. Advice on cleaning and disposal of packaging - Rinse with an appropriate solvent. - Allow it to drain thoroughly. - After recovery of solvent dispose of by special waste incineration. - Dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Measure for waste avoidance or recovery - Do not burn, or use a cutting torch on the empty drum. - Do NOT dispose of untreated packaging with industrial waste.
