Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A reliable 72 h EC50 of 2.1 mg/L and a NOEC of 0.38 mg/l have been determined for the effects of the 2 -butyloctan-1-ol on the growth of the algae Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.38 mg/L

Additional information

A reliable 72 h EC50 of 2.1 mg/L and a NOEC of 0.38 mg/l have been determined for the effects of the 2 -butyloctan-1-ol on the growth of the algae Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata. This result is in line with data available for the linear 1-dodecanol with an ECr50 of 0.66 mg/l.

Experimental data on two other respresentatives of the category (C16 and C20) show no toxicity to algae up to the limit of solubility. These results were cross-read to the remaining substances.

The effects observed for the C12 Guerbet alcohol can be a consequence of a higher water solubility of the substance with the shortest C-chain length of this category. Thus no aquatic toxicity is considered for the Guerbet alcohols with chain lengths >= C16 with an extremely low water solubility.
