OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Adjustment of pH: no
- Photoperiod: 16 hours light/8 hours dark

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED: Determination of mortality and symptoms; determination or calculation of the median lethal concentration (LC50) and, if possible, the LC5 and the LC95, using the probit analysis after hours (nominal conc.): 1, 4, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours.

TEST CONCENTRATIONS
- Justification for concentrations than requested by guideline: In view of the objective, the requirements of the guideline and as no range finding study had been performed the concentrations were fixed at 1000, 5000 and 10000 mg/L. The concentrations exceeded the normal upper limit for acute studies in fish because it was the aim to test higher concentrations for classification of water pollution.

Conclusions:
The test item was tested for acute toxicity to freshwater fish in a 96h-static test. An LC50 of greater than 10000 mg/L and a NOEC of 10000 mg/L have been derived for the 25 % aqueous solution.
Executive summary:

The test item was assessed in a short-term toxicity study for fish in a method that closely followed the guideline of DIN 38 412 ", using a static procedure. Leuciscus idus, Golden orfes were exposed to the test item in a static test for 96 hours at nominal concentrations of 1000, 5000 and 10000 mg/L. No mortality occurred up to the highest tested concentration. No abnormal behaviour was observed. The LC50 of > 10000 mg/L and a NOEC of 10000 mg/L have been derived for the 25 % aqueous solution.

The LC50 of > 10000 mg/L and a NOEC of 10000 mg/L have been derived for the test solution containing 25 % of the test substance. Based on this study, the derived LC50 and NOEC for 100 % of the test item were > 2500 mg/L and 2500 mg/L, respectively.

supporting study

Sodium vinylsulphonate was assessed in a short-term toxicity study with fish according to OECD guideline 203. Guppies were exposed to the test item for 24 hours. The EC0 was greater than 500 mg/L based on the lack of mortality and sublethal effects at this concentration and lower for the 30 % test solution.
