First-aid measures

In case of inhalation: Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Hospitalise.

After skin contact: Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with water. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.

After eye contact: In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

In case of ingestion: Hospitalise immediately.

Recommended personal protective equipment for first aid responders: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media: Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray, foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide.

Unsuitable extinguishing media: None identified.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Combustible. Formation of toxic products through combustion: hydrogen chloride (HCl), carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide.

Advice for firefighters: In case of fire: Move undamaged containers from immediate hazard area if it can be done safely. Use water spray/stream to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers. Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Evacuate non-essential staff and those not equipped with individual protection apparatus. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours. Wear personal protective equipment. Remove all sources of ignition. Do not smoke.

Environmental precautions: Do not release into the environment. Do not let the product enter into drains.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Collect the product by mixing it with an inert material: vermiculite, perlite. Destroy the product by incineration. Provide a system to neutralize the fumes.

Handling and storage

Handle the substance under strictly controlled conditions according to Article 18(4) of REACH Regulation. Rigorous containment should be achieved.

Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure appropriate exhaust and ventilation at machinery. Provide showers, eye-baths. Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby.

Keep well away from naked flames. Avoid dust formation. In case of dust formation, wear a dust mask.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Store away from heat and ignition sources. Provide electrical earthing of equipment and electrical equipment usable in explosive atmospheres.

Storage life: 12-months.

Incompatible products: Strong acids. Strong bases. Amines. Alcohols.

Packaging materials: Recommended: Steel, stainless steel; prohibited: None

Exposure controls/personal protection:

The substance is used under strictly controlled conditions during its whole lifecycle as described under Article 18 (4) and Section 2.1 of the Guidance for Intermediates. The substance should be rigorously contained by technical means during its whole lifecycle and procedural and control technologies should be in place in order to minimize emissions and any resulting exposure as described under Article 18(4). Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used in cases of accidents and where waste is generated. The PPE may be also used as a good practice.

Exposure controls / personal protection

The substance is used under strictly controlled conditions during its whole lifecycle as described under Article 18(4) and Section 2.1 of the Guidance for Intermediates.

Effectiveness: The substance should be rigorously contained by technical means during its whole lifecycle and procedural and control technologies should be in place in order to minimize emissions and any resulting exposure as described under Article 18(4).

Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used in cases of accidents and where waste is generated. The PPE may be also used as a good practice.

Appropriate engineering controls: Ensure sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work areas.

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:

Respiratory protection: In case of respirable dust and/or fumes, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Hand protection: PVC or plastic material gloves.

Eye protection: Safety glasses/goggles.

Body protection: Protective clothing. Rubber boots. Plasticised (flexible) apron.

Specific hygiene measures: Maintain strict body hygiene. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours (when hot). Do not smoke, eat or drink. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.

Environmental exposure controls: Comply with National Regulations relating to Aqueous and Air Emissions.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability: The substance is stable under normal handling and storage conditions.

Conditions to avoid: Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

Incompatible materials: Strong acids and strong bases. Amines. Alcohols.

Hazardous decomposition products: Thermal decomposition giving toxic products: hydrogen chloride (HCl), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO).

Disposal considerations

Destroy the product by incineration. Provide a system to neutralize the fumes.

Destroy the packaging by incineration.

The product will be disposed of in accordance with the regulation currently in force and specifically with:

- Directive 2008/98/EC, of 19 November 2008 on waste and the corresponding national regulations which transpose this Directive.

- Directive 94/62/EC, of 20 December 1994 on packaging and packaging waste and its modifications and corresponding national regulations which transpose this Directive.

- Any other regulation currently in force in the European Community, National and Local with regard to the correct disposal of this material and its empty containers.
