Main Study

During initial experiments, aluminium sample pans were used. During these experiments exothermic effects were observed which are assigned to reaction of the test substance with the aluminium sample pan. Therefore golden pans were used in order to determine the melting point of the test substance.

 

During the first experiment, during cooling no effects were observed which were due to crystallization.

 

With the second experiment, essentially the same results as during the first experiment were obtained.

Conclusions:
No further testing required.
Executive summary:

The freezing point of aluminium chloride basic (as aqueous solution) was investigated according to OECD/EC guidelines, DSC method. Two assays were performed under nitrogen. No freezing (i.e. transition to solid form) was observed down to -90°C.

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC method and under GLP, is available. Therefore, it is considered as a key study. As no crystallisation was observed down to -90°C, the result is expressed as a limit value, and cannot be retained as key data for purpose of CSA.
