The results for the melting tests, carried out in duplicate on three samples of different lots, are shown below. At the end of each analysis, the corresponding thermic curves were recorded. Each curve reported the heat flow, on the ordinate, as a function of temperature, on the abscissa. For each analysis, the values of the melting temperature, corresponding to the temperature at which the peak of the thermogram reaches the maximum, was determined. For each analysis, the values of the ONSET and ENDSET temperature, at which the melting process begins and ends, respectively, were also determined.

The Table shows the results obtained from the test for the determination of the melting temperature of the test substance. From tests carried out in duplicate on three samples of different lots, Sample I returned an average value of the melting temperature equal to 268,03 ºC. Sample II returned an average value of the melting temperature equal to 267,74 ºC. Sample III returned an average value of the melting temperature equal to 267,70 ºC.

Conclusions:
The value of the melting temperature corresponding to the fusion of the test substance, obtained from the average of the values returned from each test, resulted equal to 267.82 ºC.
Executive summary:

Method

The test item melting point was determined using the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) according to the ASTM E 794 -95.

Discussion

Following the operative conditions described in the method, tests carried out in duplicate on a same sample, by the same operator, in the same laboratory, with the same apparatus and in a brief range of time, should not differ more than ± 0.2 °C at a probability level of 95 %. The values of the melting temperature corresponding to the fusion of the test substance, obtained from the tests performed in duplicate on a same sample do not differ more than 0.19 °C. The tests performed have therefore a precision lower than the limit imposed by the method and they can be considered valid.

Results

The value of the melting temperature corresponding to the fusion of the test substance, obtained from the average of the values returned from each test, resulted equal to 267.82 °C.

Description of key information

Melting point = 267.82 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
267.82 °C

Additional information

The test item melting point was determined using the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) according to the ASTM E 794 -95.
