Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation

If dust from the material is inhaled, remove the affected person immediately to fresh air. Call a physician if symptoms develop or persist.

Skin contact

Wash skin with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth. Get medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

5.1 Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media

Water. Water fog. Foam. Carbon dioxide (CO2). Dry chemical powder.

Unsuitable extinguishing media

None known.

5.2. Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

By heating and fire, harmful vapours/gases may be formed.

5.3. Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters

Firefighters must use standard protective equipment including flame retardant coat, helmet, gloves, rubber boots, and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Special fire fighting procedures

In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray. Water runoff can cause environmental damage.

Specific methods

Cool containers exposed to flames with water until well after the fire is out.

Accidental release measures

6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

For non-emergency personnel

Keep unnecessary personnel away. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them. Avoid inhalation of dust from the spilled material. Wear a dust mask if dust is generated above exposure limits. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

For emergency responders

Keep unnecessary personnel away. Use personal protection recommended in Section 8 of the SDS.

6.2. Environmental precautions

Avoid release to the environment.

6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Keep combustibles (wood, paper, oil etc) away from spilled material. Collect spillage. Pick up and arrange disposal without creating dust. If sweeping of a contaminated area is necessary use a dust suppressant agent which does not react with the product. Sweep up or vacuum up spillage and

collect in suitable container for disposal. Collect dust using a vacuum cleaner equipped with HEPA filter. Prevent entry into waterways, sewer, basements or confined areas. Never return spills in original containers for re-use.

6.4. Reference to other sections

For personal protection, see section 8. For waste disposal, see section 13.

Handling and storage

7.1. Precautions for safe handling

Avoid dust formation. Do not breathe dust from this material. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Guard against dust accumulation of this material. Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at places where dust is formed. Do not breathe mist. Avoid contact

with skin and eyes. Avoid release to the environment. Do not empty into drains. Practice good housekeeping.

7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid dust formation. Guard against dust accumulation of this material. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keep in original container.

7.3. Specific end use(s)

Not available.

Exposure controls / personal protection

8.1. Control parameters

Occupational exposure limits

No exposure limits noted for ingredient(s).

Biological limit values

No biological exposure limits noted for the ingredient(s).

Recommended monitoring procedures

Follow standard monitoring procedures.

Derived no-effect level (DNEL)

Not available.

Predicted no effect concentrations (PNECs)

Not available.

8.2. Exposure controls

Appropriate engineering controls

Ventilation should be sufficient to effectively remove and prevent buildup of any dusts or fumes that may be generated during handling or thermal processing. Provide eyewash station.

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment

General information

Not available.

Eye/face protection

Use tight fitting goggles if dust is generated.

Skin protection

- Hand protection

Wear protective gloves.

- Other

Personal protection equipment should be chosen according to the CEN standards and in discussion with the supplier of the personal protective equipment. Wear suitable protective clothing.

Respiratory protection

Wear respirator with dust filter. Dust Mask.

Thermal hazards

Not available.

Hygiene measures

Do not breathe dust. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices.

Environmental exposure controls

Contain spills and prevent releases and observe national regulations on emissions. Environmental manager must be informed of all major releases.

Stability and reactivity

10.1. Reactivity

None known.

10.2. Chemical stability

Stable at normal conditions.

10.3. Possibility of hazardous reactions

Hazardous polymerisation does not occur.

10.4. Conditions to avoid

Avoid spread of dust.

10.5. Incompatible materials

Strong oxidising agents.

10.6. Hazardous decomposition products

Thermal breakdown of this product during fire or very high heat condition may evolve the following hazardous decomposition product:

Carbon oxides and traces of incompletely burned carbon compounds. Silicon dioxide.

Disposal considerations

13.1. Waste treatment methods

Residual waste

Dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Empty containers or liners may retain some product residues. This material and its container must be disposed of in a safe manner (see: Local disposal regulations).

Contaminated packaging

Empty containers should be taken to an approved waste handling site for recycling or disposal. Since emptied containers may retain product residue, follow label warnings even after container is emptied.

EU waste code

The Waste code should be assigned in discussion between the user, the producer and the waste disposal company.

Disposal methods/information

Incinerate. Incinerator should be appropriately equipped for silica and other fine powder which the product will generate in incineration. Workers should wear appropriate personal protective equipment(s) such as respirator. Contract with a disposal operator licensed by the Law on Disposal and Cleaning. Do not allow this material to drain into sewers/water supplies. Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations.
