During the first four experiments, performed in closed aluminium sample containers, an endothermic effect between 150°C and 225°C was observed. This effect was ascribed to melting of the substance. Also, during the first three experiments, an exothermic decomposition effect starting at 250°C was observed. During Experiment 4, a lower heating rate was applied and the start of the exothermic decomposition effect shifted to a lower temperature (225°C).

In all four experiments the exothermic decomposition energy could not be determined adequately, because the sample pans ruptured, which disturbed the measurements.

Therefore a 5th experiment was performed in a gold-coated sample container, with a heating rate of 2.5 °C/min. See DSC curve in 'Illustration'.

Again, an endothermic peak was observed between 150°C – 225°C (ascribed to melting of the test item), but no exothermic decomposition energy effects. Also, the sample pan remained intact.

After the first four experiments, a black molten residue remained at the bottom of the sample container. This was visible since the sample lid had opened due to pressure. It indicated that reaction and/or decomposition of the test item occurred during the test.

After Experiment 5 it was not possible to open de container. Therefore it was not possible to investigate the residue.

As the 5th experiment was free of disturbances during the measurement, the result of this test is used to draw the conclusion on the potential explosive properties of the test item. In absence of an exothermic effect up to 550 °C, a value for exothermic decomposition energy and onset temperature of exothermic decomposition cannot be derived.

Therefore it is concluded that the substance has no explosive properties.
