Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

N-methylol methacrylamide was hydrolysed only to a minor extent in simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.15) and simulated intestinal fluid (pH 7.5) within 4 hours at a temperature of 37 °C.
In simulated saliva (pH 9.0), the concentration of the substance decreased to 94 % within 4 hours, consequently, the hydrolysis product methacrylamide increased by almost the same amount.

Additional information

N-methylol methacrylamide was hydrolysed only to a minor extent in simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.15) and simulated intestinal fluid (pH 7.5) within 4 hours at a temperature of 37 °C.

In simulated saliva (pH 9.0), the concentration of the substance decreased to 94 % within 4 hours, consequently, the hydrolysis product methacrylamide increased by almost the same amount.

The potential hydrolysis product methacrylic acid was not detectable with the HPLC method used.

There was no evidence for other hydrolysis products than formaldehyde and methacrylamide.
