Additional information

1,1,1,2 -tetrafluoroethane (R 134a) is a colourless, odourless gas and has a melting point of -108°C and a boiling point of -26°C. In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII or with column 1 of REACH Annex IX and/or the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (chapter R7.A), data on particle size, stability in organic solvents and identity of relevant degradation products, and viscosity are not needed as the substance is a gas.

Though not required the liquid density has been determined as 1.207g/cm3 at 25°C and the vapour density 3.52 (relative to air =1).

The vapour pressure is 570.0 kPa at 20°C. The octanol / water partition coefficient (log Pow) is 1.06 and water solubility is 1.0g/L at 25°C. It is not expected to be surface-active.

The self-ignition temperature of 1,1,1,2 -tetrafluoroethane is > 743°C, and it is considered not to be flammable at normal temperatures and pressures. It is not capable of reacting with combustible substances and, as a result, does not require testing for oxidising properties. Testing of explosive properties is not required for gases, but 1,1,1,2 -tetrafluoroethane is considered not to have explosive properties.
