Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Parent compound 2 -ethylhexanoyl chloride (CAS 760-67-8):

No data are available for 2 -ethylhexanoyl chloride. The substance rapidly decomposes in water and forms2-ethylhexanoic acid (CAS 149-57-5) and hydrochloric acid (HCl, CAS 7647 -01 -0). Therefore, Therefore, the toxicity to microorganisms is assessed on the basis of data on2-ethylhexanoic acid.

Hydrolysis product 2-ethylhexanoic acid (CAS 149-57-5):

The toxicity of 2 -ethylhexanoic acid was tested in a growth inhibition test with Pseudomonas putida according to German Industrial Standard DIN 38412, part 8 (BASF AG, 1988). The 17 -h EC10 was 71.7 mg/L indicating a low toxicity of the acid towards microorganisms.

Based on the result above, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
