Parent combound CAS 760 -67 -8:

The substance has been determined to degrade spontaneously in contact with aqueous media. No rate constant or half-life could be determined experimentally by Method 111 of the OECD Guidelines for testing of Chemicals, 12 May 1981. At pH 4 and 0 °C, the hydrolysis was significantly greater than 50 % prior to analysis of the initial sample (SafePharm Laboratories, 2003). The hydrolysis products are 2-ethylhexanoic acid and hydrochloric acid.

Hydrolysis product (CAS 149 -57 -5):

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the study does not need to be performed if the substance is readily biodegradable or inorganic. 2-Ethylhexanoyl chloride hydrolyses rapidly and forms 2-ethylhexanoic acid and hydrochloric acid. 2-Ethylhexanoic acid is readily biodegradable (EKO LAB, 1998), while hydrochloric acid is inorganic.
