Febr. 05, 2018 - Febr. 07, 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
HPLC method
Partition coefficient type:

Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
< 0.3
Temp.:
25 °C
pH:
9

The correlation log K / log POW was used for the calculation of the log POW of the components of test item Barbital Sodium. Due to the fact that the calculated log POW of the peak was lower than the lowest log POW of the reference items (2-Butanone with log POW 0.3) the log POW of this peak is stated as < 0.3 at pH 9.0 and at 25±0.5 °C.

The validity criteria and results are presented in the following table:

Validity Criteria and Results

Parameter                                                 Criterion            Found       Assessment

Range (Max – Min. log POW)                     < 0.1              0.003       valid

Value within Range of Reference Items       0.30 - 2.70     -0.579       not valid*

* As the calculated log POW of the test item lies below the lowest log POW of the reference items (2-Butanone with log POW 0.3), the log POW is stated as < 0.3.

Conclusions:
The log POW of barbital sodium was determined using the HPLC method according to OECD 117. The partitioning coefficient of the test item was stated as < 0.3 at pH 9.0 and at 25 ± 0.5 °C.

Description of key information

The log POW of barbital sodium was determined using the HPLC method according to OECD 117. The partitioning coefficient of the test item  was stated as < 0.3 at pH 9.0 and at 25±0.5 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

As the calculated log POW of the peak lays below the lowest log POW of the reference items (2-Butanone with log POW 0.3), the log POW of the test item peak is stated as < 0.3.
