Additional information

Two public studies are available for acute toxicity of hexyl acetate to fish. A weight of evidence approach is taken in order to determine the acute toxicity to fish. Studies are outlined briefly below:

A study was carried out to compare values derived from a quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) method with experimental results. The experimental results used in this study were taken from COMPUTOX (1995) toxicity database. The 96-hour logLD50 for hexyl acetate was found to be -1.52 mmol/l. This equates to a 96 -hour LD50 of 4.4 mg/l.

A 96 hour acute toxicity study was carried out to determine the LC50 of n-hexyl acetate on fathead minnow. The test was conducted using a flow-through system. Twenty-five fish that were 30 days old were exposed to the test substance in water at a temperature of 25oC. Mortality was checked and recorded at 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours after test initiation. The 96-hour median lethal concentration was found to be 4.4 mg/l based on the results of this study.
