Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For the substance as such, zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate), no aquatic toxicity studies are available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble zinc substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) determine its fate and toxicity in the environment.

2-ethylhexanoic acid: The lowest 48-h EC50 of 85.4 mg 2-Et/L was derived from three reliable studies with Daphnia magna in a weight-of-evidence approach.

Zinc: Reliable 48h-EC50 values for Ceriodaphnia dubia range from 0.147 mg Zn/L (geomean) at neutral/high pH and low hardness to >0.53 mg Zn/L (single value) at low pH and high hardness.

Thus, zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) has potential for short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
