Hydrolysis:

Considering the hydrolytic stability of the test substance, it is not expected that hydrolytic processes will contribute to its degradation in the environment.

Degradation:

Abiotic degradation:
In the atmosphere Dimethylamine is expected to be indirectly photodegraded with a half life of 1.959 hours (Chemservice S.A., 2010). Photodegradation tests in water and soil is no requirement under REACH. Hydrolysis is not expected under environmental conditions.

Biodegradation:
In laboratory tests ready biodegradability was demonstrated for Dimethylamine in freshwater and marine water. Additionally, according to an EPIWIN calculation the substance is considered to be readily biodegradable.

Bioaccumulation:

Dimethylamine has a very low potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic and terrestrial organisms. This conclusion is based on experimental results of a bioaccumulation calculation as well as on outcome of QSAR estimations, which are based on the physical-chemical properties (e.g. logPow value) of the test substance. 

Adsorption / Desorption:

Dimethylamine has only a negligible soil adsorption potential.
