Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
220 mg/L

Additional information

As key study on bacterial toxicity a test similar to OECD guideline 209 using domestic activatd sludge as inoculum was identified (BASF 1989). After 30 minutes of exposure an EC20 of 220 mg/L was estimated. This value will be used for further assessment using assessment factors of an EC50 of an similar test due to product safety reasons. In a second test according to Robra on Pseudomonas putida an EC10 of 4010 mg/L after 17 hours of exposure was measured (BASF 1989).
