In a 48 hour short-term toxicity study, Daphnia magna were exposed to 2-(2-Hexyloxyethoxy)ethanol at nominal concentrations of 0 (control) and 120 mg/L under static conditions in accordance with the OECD 202 test guideline and under GLP (BASF SE, 2021; report no. 50W0091/20E005). The test conditions were within acceptable guideline specifications. The 48 hour LC50 was > 120 mg/L based on the nominal concentration of the test substance. Since the measured concentrations of the test substance in the test solutions were within ±20% of the nominal concentrations, the effect concentration can be expressed relative to the nominal concentration for the evaluation of the test substance. The results in this study are consistent with all validity criteria and the test is valid according to the guidelines of this study. No deviations from test guidelines or other incidents occurred during the course of the reported test which may have influenced the results.


 


This result is supported by two other guideline studies.


 


The acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was determined in a study according to OECD TG 202 and in compliance with GLP criteria (BASF AG, 1999; report no. 98/0899/50/1). In this study daphnids (D. magna) were exposed to nominal concentrations of 0, 12.5, 25, 50, 100 mg/L for 48 hours. The two lowest and the highest concentration were analytically verified and remained within ±20%. Therefore, effect concentrations are expressed as nominal. Immobilization was recorded after 48 hours exposure. No immobilization was observed in any of the test concentrations. Based on these findings the 48 -h EC50 value was determined at >100.0 mg/L.


 


Another study was performed also according to OECD TG 202 (UCC/Dow, 1999; report no. K-005613-001). In this study daphnids (D. magna) were exposed for 48 hours under static conditions. Immobilization was recorded after 48 hours exposure. The 48-h LC50 in this study was determined at 370 mg/L.


 


It can be concluded that the substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
