Conclusions:
The study was conducted according to ASTM D6450-99 with a test substance purity of 98%. No relevant quality system or GLP was reported in the report; hence, the reliability of the study is 2. For this study, a flash point value of 63°C at 1013 hPa was obtained.

Description of key information

The flash point of hexan-1-ol is 60°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
60 °C

Additional information

The flash point of 60°C at 1013 hPa was determined for hexan-1-ol with use of non-equilibrium closed-cup method in accordance with ASTM-D93. The result is considered to be reliable.

The key study is supported flash point values of 62°C and 63°C available in other sources.

A flash point value of 60°C and boiling point of 155°C indicate that hexan-1-ol should be classified as a flammable liquid category 3 in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.

Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:

The flash point of Category substances follow a predictable trend of increasing flash point temperature with increasing chain length together with increasing boiling point and decreasing vapour pressure.
