Additional information

This aliphatic ketone has a log Kow of 3.71 and a predicted BCF of 130 L/kg, is not expected to bioaccumulate and is readily biodegradable. Diisobutyl ketone s is expected to be effectively removed during activated sludge sewage treatment and is not expected to occupy the water, sediment or soil compartments. The risk assessment shows that the PEC/PNEC ratio is clearly <1, indicating no need for further information or testing is needed for the aquatic environment. According to REACH Annex IX requirements, long-term toxicity testing shall only be considered when the chemical safety assessment indicates the need for further investigation. Therefore, long-term testing in aquatic species (fish and daphnid) can be waived for diisobutyl ketone. Due to limited direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartment, terrestrial toxicity testing is also waived.

Conclusion on classification

Diisobutyl ketone is readily biodegradable with acute aquatic toxicity values falling between 10 and 100 mg/L. According to Annex VI of Directive 67/548/EEC (5.2.1.2) there is no environmental classification requirement.
