Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No explicit information about biodegradation of cumene in soil available.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data on biodegradation in soil is presented in the EU-RAR (2001) in section 3.1.1.2.2 and no further explicit information about biodegradation of cumene in soil is available. Based on the physico-chemical properties air is the main target (>99%). Supporting information reveal that some types of soil bacteria are capable to degrade cumene. As cumene is readily biodegradable, determination of biodegradability in soil is not regarded necessary.

According to Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 further biodegradation testing is not required, when a substance is readily biodegradable.
