Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The additional testing of long-term toxicity to fish does not further increase the safety of this substance and thus shall not be conducted to reduce animal testing.

For Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) acute toxicity data for all three trophic levels  (algae, daphnia and fish) are available, showing no difference in sensitivity. The chronic toxicity data available (daphnia and algae) allow a critical assessment of the ecotoxicological potential of the substance. The remaining uncertainty of EGDMA regarding long-term toxicity with fish has been addressed by increasing the assessment factor for the PNEC from 50 (for two chronic toxicity studies available) to 100. The environmental exposure assessment indicate no risk (RCR < 0.04; please see Chapter 9 of the CSR) for all environmental compartments. Additional animal long-term testing with fish will not increase the safety of this substance and thus, should be avoided.

For further information please see the waiving justification for long-term toxicity with fish.
