Description of key information

The following study was provided as the key study to fulfil the data requirement for melting point/freezing point:
Walker JA & White DF (2010) DETERMINATION OF GENERAL PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES. Testing laboratory: Harlan Laboratories Limited, Shardlow Business Park, Shardlow, Derbyshire, DE72 2GD, UK. Owner company: Organo Tin REACH Consortium, c/o ReachCentrum, Avenue E. Van Nieuwenhuyse 6, B-1160, Brussels, BELGIUM. Report No.: 3109/0048. Report date: 2010-08-10
The study was performed to a current guideline, and in compliance with GLP and assigned a reliability score of 1. Using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the melting range of the test item has been determined to be from approximately 107 to approximately 139 °C (380 to 412 K).
The following were provided as supporting information to the key study:
ABCR (2010) Di-n-butyl(maleate)tin. Bibliographic source: http://212.202.102.92/abcrestore/(S(thw3usnwwfsrzqmiaqgbws55))/product_information.aspx?product_id=61706&second_id=61706&nav=search (Accessed 09.02.10).
Peveler D (2001) Material Safety Data Sheet MARK 645. Owner company: Crompton Corporation, One American Lane, Greenwich, CT 06831-2559, USA. Company study No.: 700000002125
Gelest Inc. MSDS (2003) Di-n-butyl(maleate)tin - SND3320. Bibliographic source: http://67.217.111.136/msds/SND3320.pdf. Owner company: Gelest, Inc., 11 East Steel Rd., Morrisville, PA 19067
The supporting information collectively gave a melting point/freezing point of 102 - 110°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Value used for CSA:approximately 107 to approximately 139 °C

A reliability rating of 1 was assigned to the key study, Walker JA & White DF (2010), according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as the study was conducted in accordance with recognised guidelines and GLP.

A melting point of 103 -105°C was given in an ABCR dataset. A reliability rating of 4 was assigned as the information was taken from a secondary source.

Supporting information is also available from 2 Safety data sheets (Peveler, 2001 & Gelest, 2010). The results contained in these are stated as being between 105 and 110°C, and between 102 and 105°C respectively.

A reliability rating of 4 was assigned as the safety data sheets are secondary source information.
