Additional information

In a ready biodegradation study performed according to OECD Guideline 301 F and GLP, the test item was tested at a loading rate of 103 mg/L, corresponding to an oxygen demand of about 286 mg/L (ThODNO3), and the inoculum was aerobic activated sewage sludge, domestic. The degradation of the test material was assessed by the determination of the oxygen consumption. The test treatments, inoculum blank, procedure control and toxicity control were measured in duplicates.

The mean biodegradation of the test item after 28 days was 0% (ThODNO3). Therefore the 10 day window criterion was not passed. The reference item sodium benzoate was sufficiently degraded to 85% after 14 days and to 85% after 28 days of incubation, thus confirming the suitability of the aerobic activated sludge inoculum used. In the toxicity control containing both, the test item and the reference item sodium benzoate, 27% biodegradation was noted within 14 days and 28% biodegradation after 28 days of incubation. Thus, the test item can be assumed to be not inhibitory to the aerobic activated sludge microorganisms.
