Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2005-01-13
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The physical state and appearance of the test item were determined by visual observation.
GLP compliance:
no
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
solid
Key result
Form:
powder
Colour:
white or off white
Key result
Form:
crystalline
Colour:
coulorless
Substance type:
organic
Conclusions:
The Appearance; colour and physical state of hyoscine at 25°C, 1013 hPa were determined by visual observation to be a white or off-white crystalline powder or colourless crystals.
Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
12 June 2007
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The solid state was determined by X-ray Powder Diffractometry and by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) according to an internal test method using .
GLP compliance:
not specified
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
solid
Key result
Form:
solid

The obtained diffraction spectra and DSC thermograms do not show any significant differences. The DSC thermograms of all analyzed samples showed one sharp peak, indicating the melting of the substance at about 70°C.

Conclusions:
The substance is a solid at 20°C derived from a melting point value of 70°C determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) study.

Description of key information

The test item is described as a white or off-white crystalline powder or colourless crystals at 20 °C and 1013 hPa (Method: visual observation).

The test item is a solid at 20°C derived from a melting point value of 70°C (Method: differential scanning calorimetry (see section 4.1 in IUCLID))

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
solid

Additional information

The physical state result of the test item is confirmed by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (see 4.1).
