Eighth meeting of the ECHA-Stakeholder Exchange Network on Exposure Scenarios (ENES 8)

The event

ENES8 reported on the latest developments to provide the tools to improve supply chain communication on uses between downstream users and registrants. The next phase (2015-2016) in the implementation of the CSR/ES Roadmap and its priorities were also on the agenda.

The principal themes at ENES8 were the following:

  1. How the different elements of the CSR/ES Roadmap are meant to work together
    Including:
    • Which elements work already
    • Where is further development needed
    • The review of the second mplementation plan.
  2. How authorities, manufacturers and downstream users work with the information generated
    • How authorities make use of the information from registration (for example, the screening of information for the prioritisation of substances and dossiers for further regulatory processes).
    • How enforcement authorities look at exposure scenarios at single company level.
    • How other parties work with the information generated/communicated.
  3. Particular CSR/ES Roadmap elements under development - state of play
    • Mixtures:
      • Result of commenting on the lead component identification;(LCiD) method for safe use information, further testing process.
      • Downstream user sector safe use mixture information (SUMIs).
    • Improvement of sector use maps:
      • Use description part (template and implementation aspects).
      • Sector-specific worker exposure descriptions (SWEDs) - template, examples, the link between the SWED and the use description part of use maps.
      • SpERCs (template, examples, the link between the SpERC and the use description part of use maps).
    • ESCom: how companies can start using it in practice.
    • Scaling and downstream user chemical safety reports (DU CSRs).
