Description of key information

A GLP-compliant ready biodegradation study following OECD 301F testing guideline is available for 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (Dr Noack 2016). The study, which used a mixed inoculum of soil, non-adapted sludge and water showed that 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene is considered to be readily biodegradable but failing the 10 day window. The available data supports the conclusion that although 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene cannot be considered to be readily biodegradable, it is not expected to persist in the environment and would not meet the screening criteria for persistence in the PBT assessment.
