Additional information

Two experimental studies are available investigating the short-term toxicity of aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid (CAS No. 1758-73-2) to fish. The key study was performed according to OECD 203 (GLP) with Oryzias latipes (MOE, 1999). A nominal concentration of 100 mg/L was tested under flow-through conditions in a limit test. Based on HPLC measurements the concentrations were measured to be within 80% of nominal. Therefore, the effect concentrations were based on the nominal concentrations. An LC50 >100 mg/L (nominal) was determined.
This result is supported by a second GLP study which was performed according to OECD 203 (Bogers, 1988; OECD SIDS, 2002). This study was conducted under semi-static condictions with a sreies of concentrations up to 1000 mg/L. The study resulted in a LC50 of 416 mg/L (nominal) which supports the result from the key study. No analytical monitoring was conducted. Based on the available studies it can be concluded that aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid is of low acute toxicity to fish.
