Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Biodegradation in water -screening tests

The Reaction mass of bis(2-chloroethoxy) methane and 1,15-dichloro-3,5,8,11,13-penta-oxa pentadecane and 1-(2-chloroethoxy) -2-(2-chloroethoxymethoxy) ethane is not biodegraded in the Closed Bottle test and should therefore not be classified as readily biodegradable. Lack of biodegradation does not mean that the Reaction mass of bis(2-chloroethoxy) methane and 1,15-dichloro-3,5,8,11,13-penta-oxa pentadecane and 1-(2-chloroethoxy) -2-(2-chloroethoxymethoxy) ethane is recalcitrant in nature. The stringency of the test procedures could account for the recalcitrance in the Closed Bottle test.

Biodegradation in sediment and water (simulation test) and soil

The reaction mass is used at the manufacturing plant during synthesis of polysulfide polymers and is reacted away completely during the reaction, with no emissions to water, air or soil. There are no downstream uses of this substance as it is not sold.

Bioaccumulation

According to REACH Annex IX, section 9.3.2, column 2, a study does not need to be conducted if for example a compound has a log Kow value less than 3. Based on existing data with log Kow of 1.6, this study is waived.

Adsorption/desorption

According to REACH Annex VIII, section 9.3.1, column 2 "a study does not need to be conducted if based on the physicochemical properties the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption . e.g, the substance has a low octanol water partition coefficient. Based on the measured log Kow value of 1.6, this study is waived

Hydrolysis

The results of an OECD 111 GLP test showed that substance is hydrolytically stable at pH 4, 7, and 9 with a t1/2 > 1 year
