Dipropylene glycol methyl ether (DPGME) meets the criteria for ready biodegradation passing the 10 day window in an OECD 301 F. Degradation based on oxygen consumption reached 75 % after 10 days, while 79% degradation after 28 days. The formation of CO2 reached 76% CO2 indicating extensive mineralisation of dipropylene glycol methyl ether.

Tripropylene glycol methyl ether meets the criteria for ready biodegradation passing the 10 day window in an OECD 301 F. Degradation based on oxygen consumption reached 60 % after 10 days. The formation of CO2 reached 51% indicating substantial mineralisation of tripropylene glycol methyl ether.

Methanol was readily biodegradable, passing the 10 -day window criterion, with 76% degradation (as oxygen consumption) within 5 days and 88% within 10 days.

The reaction mass containing predominantly the above compounds, plus 11 -12 % sodium metholate, which is also rapidly hydrolysed into methanol and sodium hydroxide, is expected to be readily biodegradable.
