Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

BIODEGRADATION IN WATER: SCREENING TEST

The registration substance is readily biodegradable in an OECD 301B CO2 Evolution test fulfilling the 10d window. CO2 evolution was 83% after 28d and has reached the pass level of 60% CO2 formation after 12d already.

BIODEGRADATION IN SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT SIMULATION TEST

For the registration substance a STP Simulation test OECD 303A is not available. Therefore the results from such a test for the structurally similar substance SAS (Secondary Alkane Sulfonate, CAS No. 97489 -15 -1, already REACH registered) is used. The test system was adapted for 14d and then valuated until Day 34. A degradation of 96.2 +/- 2.6 % was achieved in the valuation phase. In STP Monitoring studies for SAS (see IUCLID Chapter 5.5.1) a total removal of > 99.9% was measured. Degradation and removal of SAS may be used for the STP distribution model Simpletreet for the registration substance (see IUCLID Chapter 5.5). It is proposed to use as mass balance in the STP as a reasonable worst case: Effluent: 1%, Sludge 0.5 % (calculated by EUSES), Degradation 98.5%.

BIODEGRADATION IN SEDIMENT

According Annex IX, Section 9.2.1.4 column 2 of the REACH Regulation 1907/2006/EC a Sediment simulation test need not to be carried out if the substance is readily biodegradable.Based on EChA REACH Guidance R.16 Environmental Exposure Assessment, Section R.16.4.4.5 (May 2008)

BIODEGRADATION IN SOIL

According to Annex IX of the REACH Regulation 2006/1907/EC, Section 9.2.1.3 Column 2, the registration substance need not to be tested in a Soil simulation test as the substance is readily biodegradable and the direct and indirect exposure of soil is unlikely (the registration substance has a very low sorption potential, see IUCLID Chapter 5.4.1). A structural similar substance is LAS (Linear alkyl benzene sulfonate) with a Half-life in soil of 7d at 20 deg C (Küchler T, W Schnaak, Behaviour of LAS in sandy soils with low amounts of organic matter, Chemosphere 35: 153-167, 1997). This DT50 can be used for the registration substance in the soil exposure assessment.
