Type of method:
other: simplified flask method
Water solubility:
> 603.7 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 1.8
Details on results:
Two measurements of water solubility of 3-Mercaptopropionic Acid at room temperature were performed and values 618,9 and 588.4 g/L were recorded. Water solubility was found to be more than 603.7 g/L (mean value from two measurements according to HPLC measurements within the study). Because it was not possible to prepare a saturated solution, the water solubility might be higher than determined in the present study. The water solubility was not corrected for the purity of the test item.
Executive summary:

Water solubility has been determined to be more than 603.7 g/L by using the simplified flask method. The study followed the procedures indicated by OECD Guideline No. 105 "Water solubility" and EEC Directive 92/69 (Method A.6 "Water solubility"). Based on the high solubility found in the preliminary test a main test as described in the guideline was not performed.

Additional information

Study performed in experimental laboratory (Franke, 2008, RCC) dedicated to estimate water solubility of the test material 3-Mercaptopropionic Acid has been chosen as a key study.

Another study (Rampy, 1973, Dow) qualitatively supports the result obtained in the key study and reports complete solubility of test substance in water.
