Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No information is available concerning toxicity of Choline hydroxide towards sediment organisms.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH annex X, long-term toxicity testing shall be proposed by the registrant if the results of the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects of the substance and/or degradation products on sediment organisms. The choice of the appropriate test(s) depends on the outcome of the chemical safety assessment. Since it was shown in the environmental risk assessment that the RCRs for the freshwater and marine sediment are below the trigger value of 1 for all exposure scenarios, this endpoint can be waived. In addition, the substance is readily biodegradable and it can be assumed that it will be completely biologically degraded within the STP process. Furthermore, for substances not passing the STP-process but being readily, it can be assumed that they will be also biological degraded in the surface water within a short time. Therefore, tests on sediment organisms are considered as scientifically unjustified. The Predicted No Effect Concentration (PNEC) for sediment was derived using the equilibrium partitioning method (EPM) and the PNEC for freshwater, derived from experimental results. This procedure is in accordance with ECHA REACH Guidance of Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment, Chapter R.10 (2008): Characterisation of dose-response for environment".
