Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
Guideline compliant study with good documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
flask method
Key result
Water solubility:
> 364 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 5.72 - <= 6.16

The concentrations of the different test solutions were calculated automatically using the equation of the calibration curve and considering the dilution factor of the test solutions. The results are listed in the following table:

Nominal saturation concentration (g/L)

Water solubility, Results (g/L)

75

71.30

125

116.6

250

212.4

Thus, the water solubility of the test item Butanedioic acid, sulfo-, mono (C16-18 and C18-unsatd. alkyl) esters, ammonium sodium salt depends on the nominal saturation concentration.

In a second test, the following aliquots of Butanedioic acid, sulfo-, mono (C16-18 and C18-unsatd. alkyl) esters, ammonium sodium salt were added to 10 mL of water and stirred slowly for 1 hour:

 pasty gel

While being added to the water, cloudy solutions with increasing viscosity were being formed, resulting in a pasty gel after the addition of 4 g test item to 10 ml water.

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): very soluble (> 10000 mg/L)
Executive summary:

In the non GLP Klimisch 1 key study from Frischmann (2012), the water solubility of Butanedioic acid, sulfo-, mono (C16-18 and C18-unsatd. alkyl) esters, ammonium sodium salt was determined according to OECD 105 and EU method A.6. The water solubility was determined to be >364 g/L at 20°C.

The results of this study are considered relevant and reliable for the risk assessment.

Description of key information
