Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting point of FC-770 is -127 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-127 °C

Additional information

The pour point of FC-770 was determined by freezing the material in a small glass vial in a liquid nitrogen cooled isopentane bath, and then allowing natural warming of the system and observing the melting behavior in 1°C increments. This procedure was followed until the substance was determined to have fluidity at -127°C. This study did not follow an accepted guideline nor was it conducted under GLP guidelines. In another study, melting point was determined to be < -90 °C which supports the key study results. The supporting study follows EU A.1 and OECD TG 102, however no method described in OECD TG 102 is considered valid for substances with melting points below -100 °C. Since the key study cites a specific value for melting point, rather than an upper limit for melting, it is the preferred value. Both studies demonstrate that the test substance has a melting point less than any environmentally relevant temperature.
