Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- Sverdrup et al. (1942) refers in chapter VI "Chemistry of Sea Water" to Dittmar (1884) who measured calcium concentrations of 77 water samples, representative of all oceans. Samples were collected on the voyage of H.M.S. Challenger around the world. There were not any significant regional differences in the relative composition of sea water. Consequently, mean values of major dissolved constituents are representative for saltwater. According to Sverdrup et al. (1942), the mean of calcium concentrations in saltwater with a chlorinity of 19 ‰ amounts to ~ 400 mg Ca/kg.
