Description of key information

pKa = 9.38

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

As other organic salts, sodium levulinate is a strong electrolyte and in water solution it dissociates completely. It is reasonable to assume that Na+ ion does not react with water; while levulinate ion, deriving from levulinc acid, which is a weak acid, in water produces a surplus of hydroxide ions leading to a basic solution.

The pKa was evaluated as to be 9.38.
