Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
28th March - 6th June 1994
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to other study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.8 (Partition Coefficient - Shake Flask Method)
Version / remarks:
Commission Directive 92/69/EEC
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Only the preliminary test was performed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
As the flask shaking and HPLC methods proved unsuitable for determining the partition coefficient of the test item, the result was determined from the solubilities in the pure solvents, as detailed in the preliminary test in Method A.8 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
estimation method (solubility ratio)
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Analytical method:
other: visual inspection of separate solutions of the test item in water and in n-octanol
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
> -3.51 - < -3.48
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 4.7

Solubility in water = 475 - 500 g/L

Solubility in n-octanol = 155 mg/L

Pow = 3.26E-04 - 3.1E-04

Conclusions:
The log Pow, estimated based on the test item solubility in n-octanol and in water, is approximately -3.5.

Description of key information

The estimated Log Pow is -3.5.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-3.5
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The log Pow of the test item was determined from the solubilities in water and in n-octanol, as detailed in the preliminary test in Method A.8 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC. This was due to the unsuitability of the shake flask and HPLC methods for this substance. The estimated Log Pow was -3.5.
