Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The phothlytic breakdown of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole occurs rapidly with a half-life under one hour. The calculated half-life was 27.4 minutes for synthetic humic water and 31.1 minutes for pure water. 2 -Mercaptobenzothiazole was classified as "photolabile". The test was conducted according to the guideline EPA OTS 795.70 (Monsanto, 1989).

Additional information

ZMBT is an organic complex, in which MBT structure is present. The dissolution of MBT determines the hazard profile of ZMBT

aqueous solution; and hence the environmental fate and behavior of MBT is used as read-across approach to support the risk assessment of ZMBT.

The read-across is justified as ZMBT is the mainly ionic form of MBT.
