Identity and concentration of auxiliary solvent for dispersal: A nominal 1000 mg/l solution was prepared in standardised
artificial seawater (salinity 32-35 g/l NaCl), shaken
vigorously and allowed to stand for 4 h. A cloudy off-white
solution with floating material was observed. For each
nominal concentration (560, 1000 and 1800 mg/l) the required
amount of homogenised sample was added to 12 l dilution
water, mixed for 20-24 h and then allowed to separate for 4
h. The subnatant liquid was drawn off and used for the test
(water accommodated fractions).

Comments:
There was no chemical analytical confirmation of the actual
dissolved concentrations in this saltwater fish study . The
dissolved concentrations were likely to be lower than the
nominal concentrations as the test substance was poorly
soluble in water.

Conclusions:
The 96 hour LC50 of Radiagreen EBL Pentaerythritol fatty acid ester is estimated as greater than 1800 mg/l. The highest no-observed (lethal) effect concentration (NOEC) was estimated as 1800 mg/l.

Additional information

A semi-static test was performed according to OECD 203 modified to marine conditions. The Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) was exposed to 560, 1000 and 1800 mg/l, although this is above the water solubility limit and no analytical measurements have been performed. The substance induced no visible effects in turbot up to the highest concentration tested. The 96h-LC50 for marine species was determined to be >1800 mg/L and therefore also beyond the water solubility limit.
