Results and discussion

Boiling point
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
563 - 723 K
Remarks on result:
other: In nitrogen a wide endothermic effect, can be interpreted as both boiling and decomposition of the product

Any other information on results incl. tables

In air, oxidation occurs before boiling, an exothermic effect with an onset of 503 K (230 °C). In nitrogen, the product showed a wide endothermic effect at temperature interval 563-723 (290-450 °C) which can be interpreted as both boiling and decomposition of the product; boiling of the low Mw part and decomposition of the higher Mw part. After measurement, the crucible had a yellow-brown colour, an indication of decomposition of the product during heating at the measured temperature.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:

Executive summary:

Both boiling and decomposition occurred simultaneously in nitrogen.

Oxidation occurred before boiling in air.
