Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Phototransformation in air

After evaporation or exposure to air, isobutyl vinyl ether will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes. This fate path is of major importance as the substance will evaporate rapidly from the environmental compartments water and soil into the atmosphere.

Hydrolysis

Isobutyl vinyl ether is readily biodegradable; therefore, abiotic hydrolysis is not relevant.

However, the substance hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water under acidic conditions. Under neutral conditions, it slowly hydrolyses. Under alkaline conditions, it it hydrolytically stable.

Biodegradation

Isobutyl vinyl ether is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
