In a GLP in vivo rabbit skin irritation study, a single semi-occlusive application of ethoxypropanol for 4 hours elicited minimal transient dermal irritation, which cleared within 48 hours. Flaking of the skin was also noted, which cleared within 7 days. In a GLP in vivo rabbit eye irritation study (unwashed), administration of 0.1 ml of ethyoxypropyl produced reversible corneal damage and conjuctival irritation. These changes were resolved in all animals by Day 7. The responses were quite variable across the animals with one showing marked irritation and one negligible irritation.

Justification for classification or non-classification
The level of response produced did not meet the requirement for classification as a skin irritant.
Available data indicates that ethoxypropanol does not meet the requirement for classification as an eye irritant under directive 67/548 but because of the corneal response in two of the three animals tested, classification as an eye irritant under regulation 1272/2008 is warranted.
Available data suggest that ethoxypropanol does not meet the requirement for classification as a respiratory irritant.
